Definition of a Young Mom
A young mother is: "any woman (under 30) who is actively involved in parenting a child (or expecting to be within 8 months)"
Our definition was created in collaboration with the members of the YMBoards. :) It will be used to screen members who join our community of discussion and sharing.
Here is a breakdown of what each component of our defintion means:
- any woman under 30: a woman who has her first child before 30 is considered a young mom
- actively involved: the woman must still be participating in a significant way towards the child's care-taking needs
- parenting a child: the woman must be responsible for the child in a parent-like role, making choices about the child's entire upbringing cycle (including decisions about her or his future)
- expecting to be withing 8 months: a woman (under 30) who is pregnant is considered to be a young mom. Those who are TTC (trying-to-conceive) aren't considered to be young moms because they may not be actually becoming a young mom in less than 9 months. Those women who have lost their babies/children (either literally via miscarriage, infant death, other tragedy OR in a custodial sense) are not considered to currently be young moms.
