My Life as a Young Mommy | |
THIS PAGE HAS MOVED! You'll find the updated version of this page there, or you can search the blog to find info on the subject. As a young married mommy, I blog about anything and everything from my experiences surviving PPD and OCD, to coping with pain from car accident injuries, to daily life with kids, to scrapbooking and card-making, to blogging and internet/new media topics. From 17 to 27... It all started when I got pregnant at age 17. I always like to make it clear that the only difference between me and any other 17-year-old choosing to have sex was that small % margin of error of types of birth control! You can read the whole story on my daughter's website: click here. Now, about a decade later, I'm almost 27, and have accomplished a great many things in my life! I'm sure that this has surprised the many people who told me that having a child at that age would "ruin my life". It didn't break my spirit at all, it only made me fight harder to still get what I wanted out of life. As a single mother, I went back to university and graduated with honours in the B.A.honours Psychology program, with a B.A.concentration in Women's Studies on top of that! I got my first post-grad job in June 2003, got married to my partner in August 2003, and although we had several miscarriages, we ended up having our second child in December 2004. I have been accepted to the M.A. program at the university, and hope to be pursuing my Masters in Counselling soon. I work full-time in the field of counselling, not to mention the peer counselling I've done over the years in my role as Coordinator of a student centre while I was in university, and of course in my role as founder of the Young Mommies Help Site! I really hope young women can take my success story and see themselves living the same dream. I really and truly believe that being a young mom, while being a huge challenge, is not an obstacle to getting what you are dreaming of in life. I would encourage women to still go out and get a good education if they can, to see a meaningful career, to search for loving partners who will respect and value them, and so on! Yes, being a young mother is very difficult at times, but anything is still possible!
